Ah, adjunct life

You know, it's probably a damn good thing that adjuncts have thus far failed to organize themselves in any useful way. Because if we had any collective power, we would probably rise up and kill our masters.

Classes started today at Two-Hour-Commute College. I am teaching two courses here (I am currently in my classroom in between the two classes) and a third one tonight at College Number Three. (Classes started at Snooty College last week; those are going quite well.) I am in a bad mood. Because:

1. They doubled my class sizes this semester. No extra pay of course. I knew this before, but made my changes accordingly (no writing assignments, all multiple choice exams) so that I could deal with it. No problem.

But now I'm pissed. Because:

2. They moved my office. I didn't find out until two days ago.
2a. I already have 170 copies of my syllabus with the old office number and phone number.
2b. I don't have a key to the new office. Which leads us to:

3. I went to pick up the key this morning. The secretary had mistakenly filled out the form to say OldOfficeRoom#, which is the key I ALREADY HAVE, not NewOfficeRoom#. So I still don't have a key. So the secretary lets me in, and I have to go turn in a new key request.

4. The other user of the new office (adjuncts have to share) has stuff in EVERY drawer, cabinet, and shelf. And there are a lot of drawers, cabinets, and shelves in the room. I got pissed off and claimed one of this cabinets, and moved everything out of it.

5. The computer in the new office has some fancy networking system that you need a username to get into. I don't have a username. I can't use the computer.

I do believe this qualifies as a hostile work environment.

Moved your office? That's very rude! My feathers are officially ruffled on your behalf!

My office was moved too. Sucks. I don't have to share at least - but they did demand my office hours in case someone else needs it.

Sorry about all of this brazen!
