Wait! Wut? Your job search succeeded but you didn't take the fucking job????
No. I decided I would be better off here in my new position of Research Scientist than as an Assistant Professor at that particular institution.
Good for you for thinking about fit and not just taking the position!
Wow. Quite the summary. The least anyone can say is you are persistent and versatile. :)
PP some jobs are not worth it. In my 2nd year as a post-doc I applied for some positions and got an offer. School was good the offer was so low, I couldn't take the job especially since the area's economy was going into the tank and drastically cutting the types of jobs my wife is qualified for. The school had set salaries and set moving expenses. The reward was just not worth the risk. If my wife got a job we would have actually taken a net pay cut even after adjusting for differences in cost of living. Turned down a job offer without one in hand for similar reasons this year. Got another offer a couple weeks later luckily that I did accept.
Damn! That is quite the list!
